Chers Amis
Serge Ouaknine

The Way

A bi-lingual work session for performers, led by Réna Mireçka

This work draws from a number of Eastern and Aboriginal practices, among others. Whilst some time is dedicated to stretching and physical techniques such as ‘the cat’, the emphasis is on improvisation, impulses, and inner life; sessions consist mainly of paratheatrical and ritualistic exercises.
Réna Mireçka is a founding member of Jerzy Grotowski’s Laboratory Theatre and collaborated with Grotowski for 25 years. She is a specialist in the physical exercises known as plastiques, and performed leading female roles in all performances created by Jerzy Grotowski (including: "Acropolis", "The Constant Prince" and "Apocalypsis cum Figuris"). She has since been working independently and conducting her own paratheatrical research The Way.

        RÉNA MIRECKA

“When you take part in the Laboratory of Paratheatrical Research ‘The Way’, try to be active. Burn out all the tensions, all the blocks of energy, dance out the darkness, scream the pain out to the spasm. Be active up to the point where the action will stop itself…” - extract from Réna’s letter addressed to the participants in her work.
Réna Mireçka’s visit to Montreal is funded by the Polish Embassy in Ottawa for 2009, Year of Grotowski, and co-organized by Virginie Magnat (University of British Columbia) and Kate Bligh (Les productions temenos).
