>         "SYMBOLIC CONSTRUCTIONS IN AND OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY"

> The organizers of the 1995 MWASECS meeting invite papers and proposals on
> all topics relating to the larger eighteenth century (1660-1815).
> Especially welcome are papers that engage the general topic of "Symbolic
> Constructions in and of the Eighteenth Century," reflecting on the
> paradigms (theoretical, cultural, methodological, historical, political,
> libidinal ... ) whereby the eighteenth century is -- or has been --
> represented.

> Plenary speakers at the meeting will be:
>    John Bender (Stanford University), "Science and Pornography"
>    Laura Brown (Cornell University, "The Feminization of Ideology"

> The meeting will take place in Minneapolis at the Radisson Metrodome,
> located on the University of Minnesota campus.   A block of rooms has been
> reserved at the Radisson at a rate of $82 (single) and $92 (double) per
> night plus tax.  These rates apply to Saturday night as well, for those
> planning to stay over after the meeting to take advantage of events in the
> Twin Cities and reduced air fares.  The Radisson is within ten minutes of
> downtown Minneapolis, and twenty minutes of downtown Saint Paul.  Numerous
