CALL FOR PAPERS -- "Performance Studies" and "Dance and Culture" areas

We are soliciting proposals for panels, individual papers, and
presentations for the annual conference of the

POPULAR CULTURE ASSOCIATION

in Las Vegas, NV, from Monday to Thursday, March 25-28, 1996.

Send your abstract (250 words), proposal, or full-length paper
(approx. 10 pages) to the appropriate area chair listed below.
DEADLINE:  postmark Sept. 1, 1995.

Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary topics and approaches are
encouraged.  Alternative formats are welcome.

Please specify audio-visual equipment needs in your proposal; slide
projectors and VCRs are available.  You will receive word on the
status of your proposal by October 1, and at that time you will
be asked to have current membership status and pre-register for
the conference so that your name can appear in the program (printed
in December).  Membership is $35; pre-registration fees are
$70, regular; $30, student/retired/unemployed.

DANCE AND CULTURE (including folk, country, ethnic, social,
ballroom dance worldwide; dance teaching to popular/wide audiences;
use of popular forms in dance choreographies; attitudes toward dance;
gender and class constructions; use of dance in literature, drama,
visual arts, advertising, etc.)

PERFORMANCE STUDIES (including the application of performance studies
methodologies to the arts as well as to other cultural phenomena in
cultures worldwide; live performance art pieces that comment on aspects
