The Department of English and Modern Languages, Oxford Brookes University is looking for strong candidates for two, three year, full-time PhD studentships.
For successful candidates the home/EU fee will be paid by the University and students will receive an annual stipend of £7000 for three years beginning in
2012/13. The studentships are open to both home/EU and International students, but International applicants should be aware that they would need to fund the
difference between the home/EU and International research degree fees each year for the duration of the award.
The studentships are intended for candidates, who will pursue PhD research that falls within the following research areas (this list is not exclusive and
applications in other research areas are also welcomed):
• European Drama
• Literature and Community
• Literature and Environment
• Literature and the European City
• Literature and Science
As a successful applicant, you will join a supportive and research-active Department. In the RAE 2008, 70% research in the Department was judged to be of
International quality and 5% of this world-leading.
Eligibility: We are looking to recruit candidates of the highest quality, with the capability of submitting a PhD thesis within 3 years. The successful candidates are
expected to have completed, or be in the process of completing, a relevant Masters degree. The Studentship holders may also be required to complete
supplementary research methods training in their first year of study. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate strong research capabilities and be fluent in
spoken and written English.
Deadline: The closing date for applications is 17:00 on Wednesday 9 May.
Interview date: Interviews will be held from the week commencing Monday 28 May.
