Question: Where can I get texts with video files that can be played on Web pages made by Cloze Builder *video*?

You are looking for texts accompanied by either .RAM or .MWV video files with a link you can get at (either with Right Mouse Copy-Link or by digging into source code (View > Source)

  1. Start with a search with Google on keywords "text video RAM WMV" (click here).

  2. The Demo on the Builder page comes from an old (1999) PBS Frontline program. Both the video and text transcript were linked from this page, along with useful supplementary material.

Frontline will let you watch but not capture URLs for recent videos, but you can find pre-2000 archived material with capturable URLs. Go to Frontline Homepage, and search "Previous Reports" by categories for pre-2000 materials.

Similarly, on CBC, BBC, and other PBS programs, you can find video-text combos with a little digging.

  3. Another great source:
    Western/Pacific LINCS
: Plus exercises, real sound and video.
: CNN San Francisco - National Institute for Literacy's LINCS Project.
  4. Still another - try ABC Australian Brodcasting Corporation for a great collection in a highly usable format (found by Michael Gallagher)
    ABC English Bites
