ROBERT J. VALLERAND

Robert J. Vallerand has completed the Ph.D at the University of Montreal and postdoctoral studies in Experimental Social Psychology at the University of Waterloo. He started his career as an assistant professor at the University of Guelph and then moved to the Université du Québec à Montréal where he is now a Full Professor of Social Psychology. Professor Vallerand has written more than 200 articles and book chapters mainly in the area of social motivation, as well as 4 books. His research mainly focuses on the Hierarchical Model of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation (Vallerand, 1997) and the Dualistic Model of Passion (Vallerand et al., 2003). Professor Vallerand has secured more than $3 millions in research grants and has supervised several doctoral and postdoctoral students, including 16 who are now university professors across Canada and Europe. He is on the editorial board of several journals including JPSP, PSPB, and Motivation and Emotion and has served as President of both the Canadian Psychological Association and the Société Québécoise pour la Recherche en Psychologie. Finally, he has received several honors, including being elected Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, the Canadian Psychologial Association, and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, and receiving the Sport Scientific Award from the International Olympic Committee and the Adrien-Pinard career award from the Société Québécoise pour la Recherche en Psychologie.
